Murata / Elliptic Labs Ultrasound Gesture Control Immersive experiences have become more prevalent in the past few years. Microsoft's Kinect and Sony's PlayStation Move, among others have brought new applications for working in three, rather than two dimensions into the mainstream. Bringing this to mobile devices in a power efficient manner has proven elusive. Samsung has entered the playing field with their proximity sensor approach, but that's far from being engrossing due to its limited range. Using the camera for constant analysis, too, is a power drain on devices that already have enough to deal with when it comes to power savings. Murata and Elliptic Labs have worked together to provide a novel hardware and software solution to solve this problem. The duo's Ultrasound Gesture Control provides extended range gesture capabilities that not only provide incredibly power efficient input, it's a component solution compatible with many major operating systems, including Android and Windows. Implementation is a relatively low cost increase, as the additional ultrasonic transmitter works in conjunction with noise cancellation microphones already included on modern devices. Immersion is enhanced further due to a fantastic 180 degree operating range.
