Demand for more sophisticated broadcasting services is expected is grow in the lead-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. In response, the industry is moving toward full scale development of ultra high resolution 4K/8K televisions. In this panel discussion session, speakers from top Japanese companies in the industry will give presentations on the future prospects for, and potential of the 4K/8K standard, including its various attractive features, possible changes brought about by the linkages between broadcasting and communication, technical problems associated with the commercialization of the services that could become available from such linkages, standardization, schedules, and the content of such services, and the industry’s initiatives for dissemination of TV receivers, as well as similar efforts by South Korea, which is another leader in this field.
