USB POWER DELIVERY

USB POWER DELIVERY

comments

ROHM Co., Ltd.

Over the years, USB has become an inseparable part of our daily life, to the point where we may soon solely rely on it as we prepare for its high power specification – we are talking about up to 100W (20V @ 5A), which can easily power a laptop! To help enable this, ROHM is developing a tiny chip that can deliver the right amount of power to your devices. Just imagine a future where you can charge up both small and large devices with just one power adapter and one cable.
In order to cover a range of device types, ROHM’s upcoming power delivery transceiver chip supports all five USB power profiles, meaning it can deliver as little as 10W (for the latest mobile devices) all the way to 100W. That’s pretty impressive given the size of the small chip. It may be a while before 100W USB becomes a mainstream specification, but having seen a live demo here at CEATEC JAPAN, it’s clear that ROHM fully supports it.
To recognize this effort in making our daily lives more convenient, we hereby present this award to ROHM.
