"To dream the impossible dream." These are the powerful words sung by Andy Williams in a Honda TV advert back in 2005. We've all been there: As children, we drew our dream cars on paper; and now, we can apply the same imagination to 3D printing and actually build a car. This is the vision of Honda's Variable Design Platform: Just give designers the base chassis of a compact electric vehicle, then let them devise and print out car parts to suit their clients' needs -- be it for delivery, for setting up a mobile coffee shop or even just for having a cute-looking car to promote one's brand. Thanks to the latest 3D printing advancements, it's never been easier to customize a car on so many levels, as proven by Kabuku's beautiful design for the Toshimaya delivery car shown here at CEATEC.

Needless to say, this Variable Design Platform opens up limitless opportunities to both the design industry and the 3D printing ecosystem, therefore it is only fitting for it to win the CEATEC Innovation award for Industrial Design. As Honda's very own slogan puts it: This is a company that's truly embracing the power of dreams.
