[JE-11]Research and development on the practical application of automated driving for automobiles has been advancing at a rapid pace across the world. We are now moving from the research phase to the phase in which these systems are being verified on actual roads. It is expected that automated driving systems will contribute significantly to reducing the number of traffic accidents and traffic accident fatalities. Safe driving support systems, which are considered to be at level 2 in the definition of automation, have began to penetrate into society and are rapidly gaining in popularity.Automated driving systems are perceived as one element of the Internet of Things (IoT). These are systems that take advantage of all data. However, there are concerns that these systems could be hijacked and their data could be altered due to a cyber attack with this then leading to an unforeseen situation occurring. It is very important to change our way of thinking about cyber security and to take countermeasures against this.Automated driving system verification tests are actively being carried out around the world. However, challenges have also emerged through these tests. What are the challenges that have emerged in these verification tests and what are the possibilities for solutions to them? They will surely contribute to a safe and secure automotive society in the future. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of accidents involving the elderly and those with conditions that have the potential to interfere with driving. There are also cases in which these have led to major accidents. Furthermore, it is important that automated driving systems transfer control to the driver when they are unable to resolve an issue. This means it is extremely important for these systems to grasp the health condition of the driver. It is necessary to promote cooperation with the medical sector and achieve the early commercialization of deadman systems and the like in order to prevent accidents and establish safe driving environments. This conference will look at development trends and the direction of these, the ideal future with an eye on realizing fully automated driving, and the challenges and solutions that have emerged from verification tests carried out toward the practical application of automated driving systems. Together with this, this conference will consider the necessity of cyber security and automated driving systems from the perspective of problem solving through cooperation between the medical and engineering sectors

Our reliance on ICT will only continue increase and our dependency on them will not and as a society, we must always exercise a new level of caution. However, it’s also important not to be overly cautious to the point of shunning advancements such as autonomous vehicles. Nonetheless, with any recent innovations, hackers can do more damage.
It’s clear that regular automobiles (not even autonomous ones) are still dangerous and cause real damage (not to mention environmental effects), and yet we have accepted them because they yield greater benefits to society than harm. As a society, we have learned to deal with these dangers through the development of technologies and other tools such as insurance to mitigate risk.
Just like we can’t make unbreakable cars or cars that will never kill people, as a society the benefits of automobiles clearly outweigh the negatives. For autonomous vehicles, the cybersecurity challenges will take time to work themselves out. Eventually, through cybersecurity resilience, the benefits of autonomous vehicles will be tremendous. This session will talk about the existing issues and upcoming hurdles that we must address both on the ICT front and the cybersecurity which enables it.

Cybersecurity is a challenging topic for any industry, particularly the automotive sector considering recent attacks against major automotive brands. While the practice of automotive cyber resiliency is in its infancy and is focused on hacking activities, it highlights an urgent need for advanced security testing practices. In this talk, Chris Clark, Principal Security Engineer at Synopsys, demonstrates how fuzzing attacks against Bluetooth enabled infotainment systems can cause a denial of service, potentially compromising and subjecting the vehicle to serious safety implications. In addition to a demonstration, he will also discuss how cyber-attacks are driving security standards necessary for future cyber resilient vehicles.

[JE-12]IoT enables us to gather information about the real world to improve our lives and society, but personal data, including personal information and privacy, may be contained in the information. IoT may unfortunately lead to serious problems in compliance and reputation. This talk addresses privacy problems caused by IoT and outlines technically safety measures to such problems. I also explain revised laws on personal information, since I was a member of committee for revising the laws.
The future technologies such as IoT, Big Data and AI have been attracting much attention recently, but it seems that those social values or meanings are not concrete for engineers. SECOM has provided various social system services based on our corporate philosophy “Creating social service system through innovative technologies”. We are clarifying the social design and advancing research and development that use IoT as an important tool for the future.
In our research and development, we are focusing on to realize the following basic processes for our operations in secure & safe services: ①discovering the small changes, ②grasping the & meaning of changes&and ③responding effectively based on the meaning. We consider the essential value of IoT as “①discovering the small changes” which influences the whole process. In this presentation, I introduce our activities and future strategy aiming to realize the secure & safe social system services utilizing IoT.
