CEATEC JAPAN Executive Board

The CEATEC JAPAN Executive Board, comprised of three organizations – the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), whose Chairman is Norio Sasaki, Director and Vice Chairman of the Board at Toshiba Corporation; the Communications and Information Network Association of Japan (CIAJ), whose Chairman is Takashi Okuda, Chairman of Sharp Corporation; and the Computer Software Association of Japan (CSAJ), whose Chairman is Shigefumi Wada, President of OBIC Business Consultants Co., Ltd. – is pleased to announce that CEATEC JAPAN 2013, the Cutting-edge IT & Electronics Comprehensive Exhibition, will be held over a five-day period from October 1 (Tuesday) to October 5 (Saturday), 2013, at Makuhari Messe (Mihama Ward, Chiba City).

Theme of CEATEC JAPAN 2013: “Smart Innovation – Technology for Future Society and Lifestyles”

IT& electronics industries hold the promise of contributing greatly to important growth strategies such as the expansion of existing industries through IT usage and the creation of new industries through convergence across differing fields. Technical innovations in IT & electronics are making lifestyles and society as a whole more comfortable and smarter.

Highly-topical keynote speeches/international guest speakers

Opening day, October 1 (Tuesday), will feature keynote speeches from Norio Sasaki (Vice-Chairman and Director of Toshiba), Takashi Okuda (Chairman of Sharp), and Shigefumi Wada (President of Obic Business Consultants), as well as a 4K/8K panel discussion and guest speech from Intel Corporation. Following, a range of key players in the IT and electronics industries will be giving presentations on keyword themes such as the smart community, smart networking, and smart devices until Friday, October 4. One session that is sure to gain attention will be a panel discussion covering Tizen OS, Firefox OS, and HTML5 under the theme of " Next-generation Smartphone OS (tentative)”.

Promoting “innovation” and “hands-on experience proposals” with 2 exhibition configurations
1) Key Technology Stage

The Key Technology Stage will present the world-leading electronic components and devices coming out of Japan that are supporting innovation around the globe. These exhibits will feature cutting-edge high-functionality components and key devices driving energy efficiency and miniaturization of smartphones, tablets and other devices, energy-saving, energy storage and energy creation technologies for social infrastructure and home energy management systems (HEMS), sensing devices driving automobile computerization and product functions, power modules pioneering advances in electric vehicles (EVs) and similar technologies, safe, easy-to-use input devices for operating various equipment, and energy harvesting technologies that eliminate the need for batteries or power cables.

2) Lifestyle & Society Stage

Seamlessly combining a wide range of usage scenes, the Lifestyle & Society Stage will present “hands-on experience proposals” for the lifestyles and society of tomorrow. The exhibits will include technologies, products and services to make people's lives richer and more comfortable, such as next generation imaging technologies including 4K/8K high-resolution television, the latest in smartphones and mobile communications, smart house systems to control energy and appliances around the home, HEMS, domestic electricity storage systems, smart appliances, cloud services advancing ICT use, and upgrades in usability as well as authentication technologies essential for security.

Recognizing Innovative Technologies and Products – CEATEC AWARD

With the aim of contributing to the development of IT and electronics industries and the creation of new markets, the most striking innovative technologies, products, services and systems among the exhibits will be awarded. Continuing from last year, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Awards will be presented, while the Grand Prix will be selected from 4 categories.
1) Award categories: Products, Network & Services, Key Technologies, Core Technologies
2) Minister Awards ceremony will be held from noon during the Opening Reception, Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Hotel New Otani Makuhari
3) Category Awards will be announced from 10:00a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Makuhari Messe. The results will also be released on the official website.
4) Category Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Makuhari Messe.

New “Media Convention” openings exclusive for press conferences and media personnel

From this year, there will be an exclusive opening for media personnel called “Media Convention” from 3 pm to 7 pm on Monday, September 30, the day before the exhibition opening.
Chairman Sasaki of the Executive Board will provide details of this Media Convention and make pre-opening announcements at a press conference to be held at the Sankei Hall (Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku), on Wednesday, September 18.
