TDK's motto of the booth for CEATEC JAPAN 2013 is "Next Generation Solutions Driven by Core Focus on Magnetic Technologies." The booth will feature two main zones dedicated to two future growth markets: "Energy-related" and "Next-generation Information and Communications." In the "Energy-related" market zone, the Automotive Corner lets visitors see how our electronic components are incorporated, using a full scale car model, while the Smart Grid Corner will highlight products such as bidirectional DC-DC converters for power conversion of renewable energy sources. The zone for the "Next-generation Information and Communications" market is divided into a Data Centers Corner and a Smartphones Corner. Products such as high-capacity thermal assisted magnetic heads and actuators for image stabilization are presented here.

Ultra Low Profile and Flexible Type Coil Units for Wireless Power Charging
Receiving coil achieves WPC Qi compatibility with a height of only 0.48mm (typ.). The use of high-function magnetic material from TDK makes it possible to realize high performance even in a very low-profile product. In addition, newly perfected flexible sheet production technology provides shock resistance as well. The result is a coil with a height of only 0.48mm (typ.), rated for 5 W.
<Features>
* Receiver coil can be supplied as a customized product with specified size and thickness etc.
* Receiver coil with integrated NFC antenna also available
* Transmitter coil also uses a flexible sheet for low-profile, lightweight, shock-resistant design
* Coils other than for WPC standard can also be manufactured
<Major Applications>
*Smartphones, digital cameras and other small mobile devices
Switching power supplies
DC-DC Converter for Automotive
The use of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric, and fuel cell vehicles is advancing, with the aim of reducing harmful substances in exhaust emissions causing problems such as atmospheric pollution and acid rain, and reducing carbon-dioxide emissions that are a cause of global warming. TDK has harnessed its technological know-how gained in developing switching power supplies for consumer and industrial use in order to develop compact, lightweight, and highly efficient DC-DC converters for automotive use, thereby contributing to the achievement of environmental goals.
<Features>
*TDK's proprietary materials technology (for compact transformers), circuit technology (for high efficiency), and simulation technology (for magnetic field analysis / thermal analysis) are combined to achieve high efficiency in a small and lightweight package
*Improved conversion efficiency contributes to better fuel economy
<Major Applications and Future Outlook>
*Converting the high voltage of the battery pack for the power train to a lower voltage for charging the auxiliary battery and operating auxiliary electric equipment in hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, electric vehicles, and fuel cell vehicles
*Future reductions in size, weight, and cost, as well as the capability to link power management functions to onboard chargers, other equipment, and the smart grid will contribute to further reduced energy usage and CO2 emissions.
Transducers (acoustic transducers, magnetic heads, small motors, sensors)
Thermal Assisted Magnetic Heads for HDD
TDK is engaged in intensive R&D towards a next-generation HDD head technology called thermal assisted magnetic recording (TAMR), making use of photonics technology. At this year's CEATEC, we are demonstrating operative thermal assisted magnetic heads incorporating a near-field light generating element (laser light source), based on a proprietary principle developed by TDK.
<Features>
*Supporting future high density recording requirements through techniques such as assisted recording, shingled-write recording, and two dimensional magnetic recording
*Thermal assisted heads with integrated laser keep system modifications to a minimum
*Reader/writer technology facilitates the realization of shingled-write recording and two dimensional magnetic recording
