CEATEC JAPAN 2017
― CPS/IoT Exhibition ―
Online Visitor Pre-registration Available from Aug. 1
– Reservations for Conferences Also Being Accepted –

The CEATEC JAPAN Executive Board, comprised of three organizations – the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), the Communications and Information Network Association of Japan (CIAJ), and the Computer Software Association of Japan (CSAJ) – is pleased to announce that online visitor pre-registration for CEATEC JAPAN 2017 has started today, August 1. Seat reservations for conferences are also being accepted on the official website. The exhibition will be held for four days from October 3 (Tue) to October 6 (Fri) at Makuhari Messe (Mihama, Chiba-city).
In 2016, we announced that the former trade show for consumer electronics known as CEATEC JAPAN would become a CPS/IoT exhibition with a primary focus on the Internet of Things, a driving force for societal transformation. This year, CEATEC JAPAN will serve as a showcase for Society 5.0, Japan’s concept of the ultra-smart community of the future. In presenting to the world how Japan plans to realize this vision for growth and development, CEATEC JAPAN seeks to break down conventional barriers and converge policies, industries and technologies in pursuit of “Connecting Society, Creating the Future” – a future in which IoT, robots and artificial intelligence (AI) will all play important roles.

1. Leading companies & organizations representing diverse industries

The exhibition will feature 3 areas to reflect the different realms of CPS/IoT usage and development: Community & Town Area, Home & Lifestyle Area, and Device & Software Area. These will feature new technologies that offer solutions to the challenges facing society. In addition, there will be a Special Theme Area dedicated to the collaboration and innovation that are indispensable for realizing Society 5.0. This area will include IoT Town 2017, with a focus on creative partnerships involving different industries; Real 2020 Showcase, which highlights smart factories and regional revitalization; AI Pavilion, a special exhibit co-sponsored by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST); and Global Startup Showcase, where overseas startups will congregate. CEATEC JAPAN 2017 will see the participation of many leading companies and organizations representing diverse industries and in numbers even greater that at last year’s event.

2. More than 100 conferences connecting policies, industries and technologies

CEATEC JAPAN 2017 conferences will reveal a future in which IoT, robots and AI all play important roles. Among the many topics covered relating to key components of Society 5.0 will be Fintech, tourism, smart cities, self-driving vehicles, smart homes, cyber security, smart farming, 5G, data mining and open data. In all, over 100 such conferences are planned. As these are announced, seat reservations can be made using the official website from August 1 onwards.

3. Opening reception, attended by international VIPs and executives, to be held on the eve of the exhibition

On the evening of October 2 (Mon), the day before CEATEC JAPAN 2017 starts, an opening reception will be held in central Tokyo, following the pattern set in 2016. Among the approximately 800 guests with a stake in Society 5.0 there will be representatives of the Japanese government, relevant ministries/agencies and foreign embassies in Japan, as well as leading industry figures and other executives from both Japan and abroad.

CEATEC JAPAN: CPS/IoT Exhibition
CEATEC JAPAN has evolved from being a trade show for cutting-edge IT and electronics into a CPS/IoT exhibition. This dramatic change of focus was to provide a venue for the collaborative creation of a future society in which CPS and IoT will generate new connections and opportunities. Thus recast as a CPS/IoT exhibition, CEATEC JAPAN 2016 was able to present visitors with futuristic concepts and new business models by bringing together the key technologies underpinning a CPS/IoT society and the new services that utilize them. The size of the 2016 exhibition was significantly larger than the previous year: the total number of exhibiting companies and organizations was 648, an increase of 117 (22.0%), and there were 145,180 registered visitors, an increase of 12,132 (9.1%). This was a very promising start for this CPS/IoT exhibition, providing as it does a venue for creating new business by breaking down barriers between different industries and existing business categories, while fostering co-creation that includes international collaboration on policy-making.
