Innovation Lab Case Study - Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)

Problem Use Case
A leading global utilities provider identified an issue with personnel not wearing correct Health and Safety equipment when operating in industrial and public environments. This resulted in personal injury claims, increased legal and insurance exposure, and lower operating efficiency. It was also highlighted that public protection in areas of construction or work environments was a high liability exposure.

Solution
Cortexica developed an autonomous multi-entry/exit verification solution. Installed video cameras mounted above entrance and exits to working environments and manufacturing lines, were integrated with an on-device embedded video vision system. The solution UI presents an inventory of equipment to detect, for example, headwear, handwear and footwear, and carries out a visual verification to confirm that all items are correct for the targeted environment. Upon receiving confirmed visual verification, the doors or barriers automatically opens to permit access to personnel or the public. The technology can be enhanced to include identification and workflow management.

Innovation Lab Case Study - Production Line Monitoring

Problem Use Case
A top 10 manufacturer was facing a problem with line-cutting machinery falsely recalibrating its systems, this was causing the deployed technology to frequently stop production unnecessarily. Laser sensors were incorrectly detecting that the cutting blade required recalibration - averaging one incident per minute, resulting in significant loss to productivity.

Solution
Cortexica created an embedded video vision solution that conducts a visual verification of the cutting blade. Installed cameras packaged within a low-profile embedded industrial hardware/software system were integrated with existing laser system. The new solution identifies if recalibration is required before allowing the machine to adjust the cutting blade. A scalable solution was designed and developed that allows in-field integration, with ease of installation and minimal interruption to current production line operations. The technology can be enhanced to detect contamination or spillage from cutting operations.
