The financial sector environment is changing rapidly as ICT, exemplified by Big Data, AI and robotics, makes huge strides and as new players such as retail and venture companies enter the sector.
In this environment, we recognize that to maintain our competitive advantage we must make full use of emerging technologies and our long-accumulated information assets to improve existing business and create new business segments. To this end, MUFG is working to strengthen its ICT initiatives and promote digital innovation.

At the booth, we exhibit a part of our projects: NAO, a humanoid robot to welcome customers at our branches, MAI, a virtual assistant in our smartphone app and five FinTech startups who joined MUFG FinTech accelerator program.

Humanoid Robot NAO

NAO is 58 cm tall and has the ability to understand and speak 19 languages. NAO currently helps with basic inquiries, such as ATM guidance, but as further AI is integrated in the future, we hope the robot will be able to respond to more sophisticated questions.

“J-Mups” – Cloud based multi payment system

J-Mups is a cloud based payment system which adopts thin client architecture.
By consolidating payment applications to J-Mups center, we have accomplished “Expandability” ”Security” and “Low cost”.
J-Mups can process multiple payments on a single payment terminal by communicating to the center using the internet. Not only Credit card payment such as Visa, MasterCard, and JCB can be processed but also Unionpay payment and e-Money payment such as Suica, PASMO, ICOCA or iD, QUICPay, Rakuten Edy, WAON, nanaco are supported. NFC payment is planned to be supported.
