Smart Appliances – gimmicks or real consumer value?

The Home Appliances market has outperformed CE for a number of years, while the outlook remains robust. Like all electronics major appliances (MDA’s) are getting smarter, while consumers decide if the features are gimmicks, vendors are pushing forward regardless.  Whether it is a Smart fridge which provides recipe ideas based on the contents inside, a washing machine which automatically determines how much liquid detergent the wash needs, or a fridge which monitors and communicated its contents, consumers will be able to do much more with their appliances moving forward. 2015 the Tipping Point for Wearables

Wearable device sales amounted to 57m units across all categories in 2014, up 45% from 2013. Already worth $9billion in 2014, 2015 is widely expected to mark a tipping point in the Smartwatch, as well as the wider Wearables market. Smartwatch sales volumes are expected to exceed that of all Swiss-made watches, by the end of this year.Activity trackers and health-tracking devices made up the lion’s share of market volumes in 2014 and will grow in 2015, but prices are already low: today almost 45% of sales cost under $100 in 2014.
