Yoichi Ochiai, media artist,
selected as Keynote Speaker for CEATEC 2019

The CEATEC Executive Board – consisting of the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, the Communications and Information Network Association of Japan, and the Computer Software Association of Japan – has announced that CEATEC 2019 will feature a keynote speech given by Prof. Yoichi Ochiai, Associate Professor at University of Tsukuba and CEO of Pixie Dust Technologies, Inc., on October 16th, the second day of the exhibition. Prof. Ochiai is scheduled to talk under the theme Implementing spatial viewing haptic technology based on super AI base for society realizing diversity by computers. CEATEC 2019 is a comprehensive exhibition of Society 5.0, bringing together innovative CPS/IoT technologies from a wide range of businesses and industries. The exhibition will be held from October 15 (Tuesday) to 18 (Friday) at Makuhari Messe in Mihama-ku, Chiba-city.

CEATEC KEYNOTES that started in 2018, which garnered huge audiences, has been announced again with enhanced content. As a part of the scheme, Prof. Ochiai will be taking the rostrum at CEATEC Keynotes once again this year as someone who attracted attention a year ago.

In the event of selecting Prof. Ochiai as one of the keynote speakers, he commented: “In addition to my research project using AI and visual and hearing support/aid technology aiming to realize diversity in society at JST CREST xDiversity Project as a chief researcher, I am further promoting R&D in individualization and democratization of visual-haptics technology by social implementation of the technology at Pixie Dust Technologies to develop ecosystem in industry-university collaboration. This time, I am pleased to be able to present and deeply discuss on the future of our society at CEATEC.”

Born in 1987, Mr. Ochiai received a PhD in Applied Computer Science from the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies in two years, which is the fastest school record). From 2015, he joined the University of Tsukuba, School of Library Information and Media Studies as Assistant Professor. He is the head of Digital Nature Laboratory, CEO of Pixie Dust Technologies, Inc., via JSPS Research Fellow DC1 and Research Intern on Microsoft Research Redmond. From 2017 to 2019, he worked as Advisor to the President of University of Tsukuba, and from 2017, Visiting Professor of Osaka University of Art, and Visiting Professor of Digital Hollywood University. Also from 2017, he established Strategic Research Platform toward Digital Nature and became the Director of Platform, and Associate Professor of the University of Tsukuba. His professional interests include CG, HCI, VR, visual / audio / tactile presentation methods, digital fabrication, autonomous driving and physical control.

The keynote speech is a part of CEATEC Keynotes, which is given by business leaders of various industries. Prof. Ochiai’s keynote, which is a part of conferences, will be held at one of the convention halls in Makuhari Messe’s International Conference Hall from 13:00 (1:00PM) on Wednesday, October 16th.
