Fashion accessory-like wearable key device
The wearable key device – a product with a range of sensors solutions for a variety of applications
Semiconductor manufacturer ROHM presented a demo exhibit of its key-case style “wearable key device” – a device created using the ROHM group’s low-power icons and wireless technology, plus a total of 7 sensors including acceleration, UV and proximity luminance sensors.
As well is being able to use a tablet computer to check various indicators gathered from the sensor data such as amount of activity, distance to a building or UV levels, this device also enables opening and shutting of locks with a gesture control function. The device also uses the industry top class, ultra low-power technology from the ROHM group company Lapis Semiconductor to minimize the power consumed by the range of sensors.
The device comes in 5 colors. This simple design means the device can be attached to a keyring or neck strap so can be used any time like a fashion accessory.
“This device is a key case-type device that enables users to experience a variety of sensor functions in one device. Nevertheless in future, we plan to freely combine sensor functions in key holders and watches and so forth for different applications.” (Tatsuei Goto, Group Leader, PR Group, Media Planning Department, ROHM Corporate Communications HQ)
This product won the Semi Grand Prix in the CEATEC AWARD 2014 social innovation category.
