BOE Japan, a China-based LCD display maker, is exhibiting at CEATEC JAPAN 2015. The company presented reference exhibits of its products and technologies including the 110-inch display, one of the world’s largest sizes in 8K4K displays (as announced by BOE).

Displays for public viewing uses etc

At the venue, two 98-inch 8K4K displays were set vertically at either side of the 110-inch display. In a production that displays the same photographic subject from different angles, the company has created imaging with a greater solidity in which the viewer can really feel the depth. According to BOE Japan’s Eizo Higami, this kind of imaging is intended for public viewing purpose etc.

“Because the ADS panels we use have excellent viewing angles, they are well suited to applications where many audiences will view from various positions. We expect these could also be used as signage at events or in art galleries.”

Bridal images in the 10K display

The company also made a reference exhibit of 10K compatible display at the venue. This is an 8:6 display expanded to 21:9 aspect ratio. This display was set vertically at the venue, and used for a bridal signage demonstration. As a clear vertical display, this system displayed the full length of the bride, in a slim fashion. Video was also included in the displayed content, which was blended video taken using multiple cameras.

“In meeting demands for high-definition signage, we also propose these systems for cosmetic and apparel applications. Because video content is complicated to prepare, we expect these systems will first be used to display still images in shop fronts.

Transmissive display demo also gets attention

Transmissive display reference exhibit

In addition to the aforementioned, a demonstration on the transmissive display at the venue was also gaining a lot of attention. The company used this technology to turn a refrigerator door into a display for onscreen recipes, shopping sites and Skype TV phone screens etc. This technology enables touch operation for writing memos, and can also be used to make the door as if it were see-through, which would be fun for deciding the menu of the day. With a high, 8% transmissivity, the company used this technology to actually make a drink bottle visible across the display.

BOE Japan is considering these displays for incorporation in a range of IoT situations such as automatic vending machines or shop front show windows. These displays could also be used with medicine storage shelving in hospitals and linked to stock control systems.
